Anne Lamott

"This is the most profound spiritual truth I know: that even when we're most sure that love can't conquer all, it seems to anyway. It goes down into the rat hole with us, in the guise of our friends, and there it swells and comforts. It gives us second winds, third winds, hundredth winds. It struck me that I have spent so much time trying to pump my way into feeling the solace I used to feel in my parents' arms. But pumping always fails you in the end. The truth is that your spirits don’t rise until you get way down. Maybe that's because this-the mud, the bottom-is where it all rises from. Maybe without it, whatever rises would fly off or evaporate before you could even be with it for a moment. But when someone enters that valley with you, that mud, it somehow saves you again."

i couldn't help but notice that
1) you're friends (via internet or physical life, i don't know) with the lovely annie parsons
2) you live in portland, oregon
3) you seem to either go to imago dei or are somewhat connected to it
and
4) you like rocky votolato.

these things are great, because
1) i love annie parsons and envy her ways of discovering the coolest people around the country
2) i've been living in portland for the summer, and am leaving in a few wks, but i'm still here
3) i've been going to imago
and
4) i just bought tickets for the rocky show tomorrow night at berbatis' pan.

so i thought that i would stop to say hello and my name's rachel, and if we were to ever cross paths in portland, i'd love to meet you. and i love those words from anne lamott.
...that is all.
cheers.

why hello rachel! good to meet you! that is a crazy list of connections right there.

right off the bat though, i didn't realize rocky votolato is playing TOMORROW. holy moly, i need to go.

i know annie from church and mutual friends in seattle, and i also admire her ways of connecting people via blogs and such; it's a gift :)

i love, love, love imago dei.

what brings you to portland for the summer?

um, maybe i will see you at the show tomorrow, if not, we should get coffee sometime or something :)
